VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County Health Department on Friday reported a rapid increase in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths in the county.
Health officials said large gatherings are still discouraged, noting that recent cases are linked to the Cory Apple Festival and other outdoor events with large attendances.
“More formally organized and informal events are upcoming, which leads to public health concerns for the spread of COVID-19,” the health department said in a press release.
The other commonality of positive COVID-19 cases are from meaningful life events such as weddings and funerals.
“These events are important, but please mask-up and practice social distancing,” the health department said.
To date, 2119 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 30 deaths have been reported in Vigo County.
