MARTINSVILLE, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) – As COVID-19 vaccinations continue across the country, residents and employees of a local senior living facility in Illinois received their first doses of the vaccine.
The Clark County Health Department partnered with the Villas of Holly Brook in Marshall to ensure residents and staff were vaccinated. The vaccination took place at the Health Department on Wednesday in Martinsville as part of the government’s pharmacy partnership for long-term care program.
Illinois long-term care residents and employees will have access to the vaccine over the upcoming weeks. Care workers at Villas of Holly Brook say they are happy to have this extra layer of protection.
“We’ve seen a lot of residents get sick, a lot of staff get sick through this pandemic. So I was just very emotional that I thought I would be jumping for joy, but it was more the emotion of wanting to cry because it’s been such a long journey for us,” said Jaime Richey, Executive Director for the Villas of Holly Brook in Marshall.
Illinois received its first shipment of vaccines on December 14. The state was given approximately 43,000 doses in the first shipment. Officials expect additional shipments will come in the next few weeks.
