Lorrie Heber of the White Violet Center explains that because they have organic gardens there and therefore in need of natural fertilizer, then the alpaca herd plays an important part.
The Center has 35 alpacas on the property but would like to increase it to 40.
There’s more to the alpacas though. Their coats are sheared, turned into yarn and a variety of products to wear and use to decorate are produced.
The alpacas are also a favorite for tourists. And to clear up confusion. Alpacas are bred for their fleece. Llamas are used as a pack animal.
