Master Gardener Jan Phipps tells Tom in Edgar County about the importance of soil testing. It’s a vital step for new gardens, new locations or underperforming plots. Jan explains that you should dig down about six inches in three to four spots in the garden, mix the soil together and take the packaged dirt to your local soil conservation office. It will test the sample for nutrients that can be improved to provide a much better producing garden at your home.
