Vincennes University has a new initiative with Cummins, Inc.
Students who complete the program will graduate with an associate degree in diesel and heavy equipment technology. They will also be Cummins certified in engines.
“It marries a great academic and technical program, with a great corporation with a great vision, we really feel this is a wiin-win-win,” said VU President, Chuck Johnson.
Company officials expect the program will create a pipeline of skilled technicians.
“We’d also like them to see that opportunity exists for them in the industry, for them to then grow their careers and to take the next step for whatever that might be for them,” said Jenny Bush, Executive Managing Director, Sales and Service, Cummins North America.
Cummins has supplied the university with an extensive collection of engines and equipment to support the technical classes. Students who enroll will also be required to take a variety of other courses, including communication, chemistry and workplace psychology.
The program’s first group of students started last week.
