DAVIESS COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Daviess County woman is facing multiple charges after a victim reportedly received thousands of spam text messages.
Rikki Lyford, 38, of Washington, Ind., allegedly created a Google email in someone else’s name, and used the account to sign the victim up for numerous spam text messages.
The victim received approximately 70-100 spam messages a day for a 3-month period beginning in January, according to authorities.
Lyford became a suspect after authorities looked into a group of people who had previously targeted the victim on social media over opposition to a referendum to raise taxes.
Two other victims also received messages similar to the first victim; however, ISP said they do not know if Lyford was responsible in those cases.
Lyford was arrested Monday and charged with identity deception, counterfeiting and harassment. She was transported to the Daviess County Security Center.
