TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A robbery at a local store resulted in charges against the store owner after he allegedly fired shots at the robbers.

Authorities with the Terre Haute Police Dept. said the incident occurred just before 3:45 pm on Tuesday at the Meadows Shopping Center.

Upon arrival, officers learned a male entered Darrell’s Diamonds Jewelry Store and committed theft.

The male then reportedly fled the store and met up with another male. Both ran from the building.

The owner of the store, Darrell Bemis, 72, chased the two before firing multiple shots from a handgun.

Authorities said Bemis was taken into custody for criminal recklessness and brought to the Vigo County Jail.
