TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A person is dead following a shooting outside of Kroger on U.S. 41 on Terre Haute’s south side.

According to Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse, an incident of road rage led to the shooting.

Plasse says there are reports that multiple shots were fired, hitting one of the individuals involved.

Upon arrival of law enforcement and first responders, CPR was administered to the person shot and an AED was used. The person was then taken to a local hospital.

Wednesday evening, Plasse confirmed that the person shot has died.

The individual that fired the shots was taken into custody for further questioning.

“It’s just a sad situation. People get upset and things like this happen where it possibly could have been avoided. So it’s just a bad day when something like this happens,” Plasse said.

Plasse says his department will review video footage from Kroger and also statements from witnesses and the person who fired the shots.

This is an ongoing investigation.
