TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – An annual Thanksgiving tradition made it’s return Thursday morning to downtown Terre Haute as runners participated in the annual Turkey Trot.

The 5K and 1-Mile runs are held each Thanksgiving to raise funds and food for the community.

“It’s like a fun event that you get to do with your family before Thanksgiving starts,” Race Director Ethan Page said.

The event attracted over 400 people this year and collected 4,500 pounds of food. Part of the proceeds collected from registration along with the canned goods will be given to First Baptist North Food Pantry. The canned goods will help feed families during the holidays.

“It’s always nice being able to give back to the community that you grew up in and that you’re a part of, and just to make sure that donations come in. It’s a lot of fun,” said Julia Frietch, who volunteered for the event.
