VINCENNES, Ind. — One person is behind bars and another hospitalized following a Tuesday night shooting in Vincennes.

John Thomas Daley, 30, of Oaktown, was arrested for attempted murder after a victim was shot in the chest around 8 p.m. Tuesday across from the Knox County Library.

According to the Vincennes Police Department, the victim caught the shooting on video and was able to give a statement.

The victim was then taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, before being transported to Evansville for further treatment.

Police said Daley was found at a nearby apartment before being taken into custody.

A detective sergeant with the police department said violent crimes don’t happen often in Vincennes. She added that the shooting was isolated, so there is no threat to the public.

“This was not a random act. These individuals knew each other. This had an ongoing issue involving a child. So, this person is in custody and he’s not getting out of custody for a while. The community is safe,” said Stacy Reese.

Daley is being held at the Knox County Jail pending posting of $75,000 bond.
