Illinois sees largest 1-day increase of COVID-19 cases

This story has been updated with three new cases and one recovery reported Friday afternoon in Jasper County.

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health Friday announced 1,842 new cases of coronavirus disease in the state, which is the largest one-day increase to date. Sixty two additional deaths were also reported.

Henderson and Wayne counties are now reporting cases. 

Edgar County is the only county without a confirmed case. As of Friday, 59 Edgar County residents had been tested for the coronavirus, with 54 tests coming back negative and five tests still pending.

Other local totals as of Friday are:

  • Clark – 4 current
  • Crawford – 4 current
  • Jasper – 5 current, 1 death, 1 recovery
  • Lawrence – 2 current
  • Richland – 2 current

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 27,575 cases, including 1,134 deaths, in 92 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years.
