Illinois coronavirus cases top 50,000

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health on Wednesday announced 2,253 new cases of coronavirus disease, bringing the state total to 50,355

Ninety two additional deaths were also reported Wednesday, including the death of a 90-year-old man from Jasper County.

To date, 2,215 Illinoisans have died as a result of COVID-19.

Cases have been reported in 96 counties across the state. As of Wednesday, Edgar County remained one of only six counties not reporting a confirmed coronavirus case.

Other local county totals were:

  • Clark – 5 current
  • Crawford – 6 curent, 4 recoveries
  • Jasper – 37 current, 4 deaths, 3 recoverires
  • Lawrence – 3 current
  • Richland – 3 current

Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have processed 14,478 specimens for a total of 256,667.
