WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A house fire along Elmwood Avenue in West Terre Haute kept multiple fire crews busy Sunday Evening.

A call came in around 6:49 p.m. regarding an attic fire at the home. The Sugar Creek Fire Department responded and contained the fire. There was one person home at the time of the fire, but no injuries were reported.

Josh Sittler, PIO with the Sugar Creek Fire Department, said authorities ruled the fire accidental, crews left the scene around 8:15 p.m., but were called back around 1 a.m. when the fire rekindled.

Most of the damage is to the inside of the home caused by smoke, heat and water.

Sittler advises that people make sure smoke detectors are working and homes are heated safely.

New Goshen, Seelyville, Shepardsville and Honey Creek Fire Departments assisted along with TransCare.
