Greene County covered bridge closed as fire investigation continues

GREENE COUNTY, Ind. — A Greene County covered bridge remained closed to the public Monday as Indiana State Police took over an investigation into a damaging fire.

The Taylor Township Fire Department received a call just before 10 Sunday regarding a fire at the Plummer Creek Covered Bridge in the area of South Baseline Road and County Road 25 West in Bloomfield.

Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire set on on one of the structural beams of the bridge commonly known as the A.M. Kennedy & Sons Covered Bridge.

According to state police, the bridge will remain closed until it can be determined that it is structurally capable of handling traffic.

ISP and the Indiana State Fire Marshals are currently investigating the fire. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Indiana Arson Hot Line at 1-800-382-4628 or the Bloomington State Police Post at 1-800-423-1286.
