Indiana’s vaccination distribution plan to be unveiled

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)–Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb said the state will unveil its plan on how to make a COVID-19 vaccine available to all Indiana residents on Wednesday during his weekly COVID-19 press conference.

“You’ll have to stay tuned at 2:30 tomorrow because we are going to roll out our statewide vaccination plan,” he noted.

With COVID-19 vaccinations for healthcare workers and long-term care facilities underway across Indiana, the governor wants Hoosiers to remain vigilant.

“This is not the only answer. It still requires following good public health measures and recommendations,” Holcomb said. “It’s vigilance and the vaccine. The vaccine will help us get there faster. But that doesn’t mean we can ignore the recommendations that have been put forward.”

For Holcomb, the pandemic highlighted the need to improve public health systems on a local level.

He explained that with the help of state legislators improvements can be made.

“I’m pleased that they have an appetite to address not just from a rhetorical sense where we are today in terms of ranking, but actually addressing the root causes of that,” he said. “It will be our local communities that are some of the best sources of data and information.”

In December, Holcomb’s Next Level Teacher Compensation Commission made recommendations to increase Indiana teacher’s salaries.

Holcomb said investments in the state’s education and workforce are critical for Indiana’s success post-pandemic.

“It will separate us from the rest of the competition in terms of those investments and making sure we have a skilled up workforce ready to fill those jobs that are the future of not just America or Indiana, but the world.”

As lawmakers begin their 2021 legislative session, Holcomb said it’s important for everyone to focus on Indiana’s strengths.

“We need to make sure that the legislature and my administration continue to play to our strengths and make sure that Indiana is a place of economic certainty ,stability and predictability.”

Holcomb said Hoosiers will receive information about how and when they will be able to receive a COVID-19 vaccine during Wednesday’s announcement.
