Fate of 2020 Covered Bridge Festival to be decided Monday

PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Parke County Commissioners will decide the fate of the 2020 Covered Bridge Festival during a regularly scheduled board meeting Monday.

Originally scheduled for Oct. 9 through 18, Indiana’s largest festival could be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Indiana has experienced an uptick in coronavirus cases this summer, prompting Gov. Eric Holcomb to hold off moving to Stage 5 of his Back on Track Indiana plan. Instead, the state moved to Stage 4.5 beginning July 4. He later extended Stage 4.5 until at least Aug. 27.

Stage 4.5 does allow all outdoor fairs and festivals to resume with some restrictions. Those expected to draw a crowd of more than 250 people are required an event plan approved by local health officials.

Monday’s Parke County Commissioner’s meeting will be open to the public; however, due to social distancing concerns and limited space, there will not be an opportunity for public comment, according to Commissioner Jim Meece.

A live stream of the meeting will be available at parkewithoutreverse.org and on Facebook.
