Extra law enforcement patrols on roadways during Memorial Day weekend

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Memorial Day weekend is here and Indiana State Police strive to keep people safe on the roadways.

With increased traffic this weekend, troopers will also increase patrols to look for aggressive or distracted drivers. Officials also want you to be on the look out for slick spots on the roadways with recent weather conditions.

Matt Ames with Indiana State Police says the best thing to do is slow down, pay attention, and to use a seatbelt.

“Most important thing is this is the first three-day weekend we have coming up. We ask that the motorists travel safely. But we’d also like for people just to remember what this holiday is about. It’s about the sacrifices people have made so that we can have the freedoms we do here in the United States,” Sgt. Ames said.

Indiana State Police will be joined by other local law enforcement this weekend with extra patrols.
