Evansville man arrested for OVWI in Vermillion County; vehicle discovered to be stolen

VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – An Evansville man was arrested Monday afternoon in Vermillion County for Operating a Vehicle While Impaired. Just before 4 p.m. Vermillion County Dispatch received reports of a van traveling recklessly on State Route 63.

After hitting a barrel, deputies located the van in a driveway just west of State Route 63 on State Route 32. The driver exited the van and attempted to remove the barrel from underneath it. When speaking with the driver, police noticed he showed several signs of impairment.

Police identified the driver as Robert Shelton, 68, of Evansville. While running checks, the van was also discovered to be stolen out of Evansville. Shelton was transported to Union Hospital in Clinton where he tested positive for methamphetamine.

He has been arrested for Operating a Vehicle While Impaired, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Receiving Stolen Property, and driving on a suspended Indiana ID card. Shelton is currently being held at the Vermillion County Jail on a bond set at $10,000.
