Driver flees after crashing backhoe

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Sullivan County Sheriff’s investigators are trying to locate the owner of a John Deere 410 D Backhoe after it was left overturned in Sullivan County Monday night.

Witnesses told authorities a white male was seen driving the backhoe along a rural road in southeastern Sullivan County.

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department said it appears the driver ran off the roadway, causing the machine to overturn. The driver fled the scene before deputies arrived.

The machine has not been reported stolen, so it is possible that the owner may not be aware that it is missing.

Due to the close proximity of the corner of the county, deputies believe the machine could possibly be from Sullivan, Greene or Knox County.

Anyone with information concerning the backhoe or the driver should contact Chief Deputy Jason Bobbitt at the Sullivan County Sheriffs Office (812) 268-4308.
