COVID-19 in Indiana: State reports record number of new cases

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana State Department of Health on Thursday reported 954 new cases COVID-19, the highest one-day total in the state to date.

That brings to 59,602 the total number of Indiana residents known to have the novel coronavirus.

Several new cases were reported locally including 15 new cases in Vigo County and eight in Greene County. New cases were also reported in Daviess (4), Clay (3), Martin (2) and Sullivan (1) counties.

A total of 2,683 Hoosiers are confirmed to have died from COVID-19, an increase of 17 over the previous day. One new death was reported in Greene County for a total of 34 since the start of the pandemic.

Another 197 probable deaths have been reported based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is on record. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by ISDH and occurred over multiple days.   

To date, 666,283 tests have been reported to ISDH, up from 654,413 on Wednesday.
