SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom says a train derailment temporarily closed a road in the eastern portion of the county for over three hours. He says five cars broke loose from the original assembly and blocked the road.
The derailment occurred near County Road 350 N and closed County Road 900 E on Wednesday.
The rail line had serviced the Landree Coal Mine. According to Chief Deputy Jason Bobbitt, the coal train cars were not loaded at the time.
There were no injuries and no hazardous materials were involved. The county road was closed for approximately three hours.
The cause of the derailment has yet to be determined.
