TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Terre Haute Police said two people died Wednesday morning after a car crashed into a house and caught fire.

Police identified the victims in a crash report as 39-year-old Eric Bennett of Terre Haute and 33-year-old William Egnor of Linton.

Fire crews were called to the scene of the wreck around 6:15 a.m. Wednesday morning.

According to a crash report, police believe the vehicle was traveling west on Helen Avenue at a high rate of speed when it lost control. The vehicle then left the roadway, struck a tree and overturned before hitting the house.

The crash report states a person advised detectives that the driver had recently installed a new turbo on the car and was taking it out for a test drive at the time of the crash.

The homeowners described feeling the house shake before they realized the crash occurred. They were able to make it out of the home safely.

The impact left a hole in the back of the house.
