Abandoned house fire in Blanford under investigation

VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind. — A fire at an abandoned house in Blanford is under investigation after authorities deemed it suspicious.

Black Diamond Fire Department responded to the fire just before midnight Monday at 3032 W. 4th Ave.

The home had no utilities connected at the time of the fire.

Helt Township, Clinton, Fairview, Lyford and Shepardsville fire departments assisted at the scene.

According to authorities, water had to be brought in by tankers. It took nearly four hours to contain the fire.

“The steady 10 mph wind with high gusts made [the fire] difficult to extinguish,” Black Diamond Deputy Fire Chief Brady Anderson said.

No injuries were reported.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office or Indiana Fire Marshal’s Office.
