Vincennes, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Tia Tolbert is heading to Indiana East University to play basketball for the Red Wolves. Tolbert had a storied career at Vincennes Rivet, helping lead the Lady Patriots to back to back state championship games. She also went over 1,000 points in a victory over Evansville Harrison on November 9th of last year. She says she hopes to inspire the next generation of girls at Vincennes Rivet. “Grace (Waggoner) was a role model for me and so were the many other college athletes that came from Rivet so I think that’s important that I am maybe a role model to the little girls that want to play basketball as well in college,” she said.
Head coach Rick Marshall shared a favorite memory of the star. “When we played Tindley in the semi state her sophomore year they were talented you know they were supposed to upset us you know beat us actually and you know Tia did a tremendous defensive job on their best player and actually fouled her out by taking a charge in the 3rd quarter,” he said.
