Sycamore Soccer set for MVC Tourney Wednesday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The #2 Indiana State Sycamores will host #3 Valpo in the MVC Soccer Tourney Semifinals Wednesday evening at Memorial Stadium.

The Sycamores have not hosted a tourney game since 2016. This year’s team has already set several records, including most MVC wins in a regular season with six.

“I’m so thrilled and grateful that we were able to have a season and to have the success we are having now is something that every team wants.” – ISU Sophomore, CeCe Wahlberg.

Freshman Maddie Alexander says, “I would say we are so excited. Everyone’s probably a little nervous. For us freshman this is our first conference tournament game for that fact. I think the nerves are a good thing, it means that we care.”

Indiana State lost to Valpo, 2-0 earlier this season. The Sycamores will look to return the favor this time around and punch their ticket to the MVC Title Game for the first time since 2013.

Head coach Julie Hanley says, “The first time we played them it wasn’t the result we wanted so I think from that standpoint our kids are looking forward to playing them again, but it’s obviously tournament time so it’s a different season. John has his team prepared, they will be ready to go and so will we — it will be a fun game.”

We will find out Wednesday starting at 5pm.
