MONTEZUMA, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Riverton Parke Panthers defeated the North Vermillion Falcons, 13-3 in five innings Monday to win their first softball sectional in five years.

Head coach Sarah Haltom has now won sectionals with the Panthers as a player and head coach.

“This is a feeling that I can’t even put words to describe it. It’s a wonderful feeling and I am truly a lucky coach to be able to do this as a player and to come back to this program and implement everything I’ve learned into them and now they are living it. It’s a feeling I can’t describe honestly.”

“She is really the backbone of our team she does so much for us and we couldn’t do any of this without her,” says sophomore Kendall Montgomery.

“We’ve been fighting with them for the last 3-4 years and it feels amazing to just finally do it in sectionals. “We didn’t get a senior night so it feels amazing, “says Caeden Bennett.

Riverton Parke will travel to Rossville in the regionals Tuesday.
