INDIANAPOLIS (WTWO/WAWV) – The Northview Lady Knights won the school’s first regional title on Tuesday with a 5-1 victory over Indy Cathedral. The Knights scored 3 runs in the 1st inning and Lauren Sackett had a complete game victory on the mound. In the 7th Ellie Carter and Sackett both had RBI’s to push the lead to 5-1. Carter says she’s thrilled to return the school to semi state. “First one in 26 years feels awesome definitely having Lauren on the mound definitely makes everything so much better because we know we can always count on her but we do have a good outfield they’ve come a long way,” she said.
Sackett added that she misses the seniors who lost out on last season. “It also makes it pretty sad because you know we’re missing our senior that we had last year I know I would love to play another season with Emily Morris and a couple of the girls that left but it just feels absolutely stellar that we’re going to semi state and winning the regionals,” Sackett said.
Head coach Kathy Vossmer says she is amazed by the resilience of the Knights. “This is amazing it’s such a blessing these kids really deserve it after having a COVID year obviously they’ve shown that they can handle it and we’ve got 7 seniors so they’ve all put in the work and I can’t think of a more deserving team,” she said. Northview plays Boonville at Brown County High School on Saturday at 1 pm. The winner gets Greensburg or Danville.
