ELNORA, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – It’s been a perfect start to the season for the North Daviess Cougars. They defeated Washington last week to improve to 4-0 on the year. Senior wide receiver Ted Lamson says he noticed right away a big difference between this year’s group and last year’s. “The biggest difference in my opinion is just how serious we take practice and I really feel like everybody is buying in this year and we’ve picked up a couple new people in my class some outside receivers and some other people and they’ve really been a big help to us it’s a great feeling not to be the punching bag anymore,” he said.
For junior Joshua Krusenklaus the turnaround started with defense and a return to solid fundamentals. “Defensively overall I think our tackling is much better and then everyone is just buying in this year and everyone is confident in what we’re being told in practice everyday,” he said.
Coach Trent Fine is happy the Cougars are seeing the rewards of their hard work but says it’s important not to lose sight of what got them here. “It’s nice for them you know they’re getting some publicity and things like that and that’s been a while for North Daviess and I’m glad that we can get it going to that and we want to continue that I don’t want them to be complacent and be happy with it,” Fine said.
Certainly no time to be complacent with a trip to West Vigo on the schedule next. “One it’s going to be a long bus ride there, two they like to throw the ball a lot we know that so it’ll just be a good test for our secondary because no one’s really thrown it against us that much yet,” said Krusenklaus.
And for Ted and the coach they know there is something special about this team. “I like my teammates I like my classmates and I really enjoy my coaches and just the family and the community here at North Daviess just really makes me feel home,” Lamson said.
“Next four five weeks we’ve got good teams lined up so it really should give us an idea where we stand and you know anybody who doesn’t want to win shouldn’t be coaching so that’s what we want to do,” Fine said. They travel to West Vigo on Friday night at 7 pm.
