PEORIA, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — Matt Jachec went the distance for the third time in the 2023 season and Mike Sears and Miguel Rivera both homered as No. 15 Indiana State topped Bradley 6-1 in the Friday afternoon opener at Dozer Park.
The Sycamores (30-13, 17-2 MVC) took the lead in the top of the fourth on Sears’ team-leading 13th home run of the season with the two-run shot clearing the left field wall to put ISU ahead 2-0. Indiana State would add runs in the fifth, sixth, eighth, and ninth innings to secure their 30th win of 2023.
Jachec (5-2) picked up his fifth win of the season as the redshirt junior was rarely tested by the Bradley (14-26, 5-14) lineup. The Hampshire, Ill. native allowed just one Brave past first base in the game with Jackson Chatterton’s leadoff triple and Cal McGinnis’ sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth the lone blemish in the contest.
