TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Head coach Curt Mallory has named Gavin Screws his starting quarterback for the Sycamores’ season opener against North Alabama Thursday.

“Gavin has played at a junior college for two seasons. He spent all spring practices with us. He’s been in our system a little bit longer,” says Mallory.

Senior WR Dante Hendrix says, “The one thing that Gavin does a really good job of is anticipating and getting the ball out early before we even get out of our cuts. He does a really good job of that. Just controlling the offense. He’s a really good playmaker.”

“He’s one of those guys throughout the huddle like – we are good, we are good,” says OL Jose Vazquez.

“Calm us down when things get tough or get us ready to roll when we have to put a TD drive together to go win the game. He’s a guy that’s going to be a leader for us in the huddle and off the field as well.”
