CARBONDALE, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — The number 5 seed Indiana State Sycamores softball team defeated 12 seed Valparaiso 4 to 1 in the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament.
Lexi Benko earned the win on the mound, throwing 6 innings allowing 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 3. Former Northview Star Lauren Sackett earned the save.
At the plate, Isabella Henning drove in 2 runs and Olivia Patton added a two-hit game.
Additionally, the Missouri Valley Conference announced postseason awards this morning. Isabella Henning, Danielle Henning and Annie Tokarek were named to the all-conference first team. Olivia Patton was named to the all-conference second team and Abbi Chips was named to the all-defensive team.
The Sycamores advance to take on number 4 seed Murray State in the quarterfinals Thursday at 2 p.m.
