TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Indiana State Sycamores named the four team captains this week. They are wide receiver Dante Hendrix, defensive lineman Kris Reid Jr., offensive lineman Jose Vazquez IV, and linebacker Geoffrey Brown.
Head coach Curt Mallory has praise for the sacrifices that Reid and Vazquez have made. Well he’s (Kris) very impactful you know he had a big game probably his best game against Illinois State and closely after that game he had an operation being a Sycamore means an awful lot to Kris Reid and he’s just one of many.”
Another young man (Jose) that’s put an awful lot into this program you know obviously played all year last year with a partially torn labrum had a sprained ankle played all year with it after the season had labrum surgery,” Mallory said.
Reid has had two surgeries this year, one on his hip and another due to a sports hernia. Still he appreciates getting the nod to be captain from his teammates. “Being an older guy I’ve been here for a really long time I’ve been here since Coach Mal got here I was one of his first recruits and I’ve known him way before Indiana State so that’s an honor to stick with him and I know that’s something that probably makes him proud,” Reid said.
Added Vazquez: “I mean that was a great honor you know just all the work we’ve put in as a team you know for this team to vote me in as a captain you know one of the four captains to lead us you know to war all year and just a great honor for me and just can’t wait to get to work with everyone, he said.
Indiana State has yet to name a starting quarterback ahead of the season opener with North Alabama on September 1st. A decision could come as early as next week.
