CLINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The West Vigo Vikings will travel to Clinton and square off with the South Vermillion Wildcats Friday night to open the high school football season.

The Wildcats made some big plays in the jamboree and are hoping that momentum carries over into a week one opener that’s sort of a reunion game for head coach Greg Barrett.

“It’s exciting you know being a graduate from there, playing there for my dad you know it’s one of those games you get excited for and you just hope you go out and compete put on a good show,” says Barrett.

“It’s at our place. Our guys are ready for it. I don’t know why we haven’t played them every year, but now we’ve got them on there I think it’s a great non-conference game for us.”

First year head coach Aaron Clements and his wife just welcomed their first child last Friday night during West Vigo’s scrimmage against North Vermillion. Clements knows that these Cats are a good measuring stick to start the new slate.

“We’re really looking forward to the South Vermillion opener, it’s a good contest for us to get started and an old WIC team,” says Clements.

Kickoff is set for 7pm at South Vermillion. Catch highlights on Goin’ 2 the Endzone.
