CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Terre Haute South Braves Tennis team defeated Owen Valley 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon, clinching the school’s 4th regional title in the last five years. 1 singles player Vaishant Mannepalli provided the clinching point for South.

“I didn’t find out until after I finished my match but I just felt really good about myself you know I felt like I actually contributed to the team and I felt really nice. It’s been a lot of fun honestly this year and last year it’s different but you know it’s still really good the rest of the team is very cool and they’re nice and I really like being a part of the Braves,” Mannepalli said.

Added junior Nathan Wright “Center Grove it’s some great competition and it’s fun to play there honestly great course great people but it’s going to be a lot harder and me and Tyler we’re looking forward to it honestly going to have some great competition,” he said.

Tyler Swan feels the Braves season can continue despite facing better competition this weekend. “I feel like it was really good because then like the team can just advance from there and win,” he said.

Head coach Ethan Caldwell says this team was motivated by last year’s loss in this very round. “I’m very proud of the boys they played very hard and they came into these past couple days with the mentality they really wanted to win and you know I hope nothing but the best for them especially with how young this team is and you know with how our season went last year I think they were motivated more than ever just to come out here and leave it all on the courts and that’s exactly what they did yesterday and today and I’m proud of them for it,” Caldwell said.

In other action Terre Haute North’s James Belmar was beaten by Southmont’s Adam Cox in straight sets. While Northview’s duo of Hunter Johnson and Caden Schrader also lost to Covington’s team of Jackson Kindell and Myles Potter.
