VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vincennes Lincoln Alices football team has big expectations for the 2023 season.

The Alices went 4-6 a season ago in the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference but had several signature wins that gives them confidence going into this season, including a 31-28 victory over last season’s 2A state champion Evansville Mater Dei.

“Our guys have put in a good amount of work this summer, ” 7th year head coach Levi Salters says. “I’ve been really pleased with the turnout and the buy in. Usually, that translates on Friday nights and our kids have put the work in and we’re excited for the upcoming season.”

Vincennes Lincoln returns 15 starters from last season’s team, 7 on offense and 8 on defense. Senior Quarterback Xander Hunt will lead the offense after being named the SIAC player of the year last season.

“I expect to have another big year. I mean, we’ve got a lot of returners coming our way and we’ve got a lot of upgrades in different positions, so I expect the same if not a better year hopefully as last year,” Hunt says.

The Alices open the season at home August 18th against Evansville Bosse.
