LINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Linton Lady Miners are back on the basketball court this week, ready to begin the state title defense. Head coach Jared Rehmel says you can feel the energy around the school. “Just excitement excitement around the program enthusiasm around the program you know we’ve got 24 players this year which is the most we’ve had since we’ve been here so it’s just fun to see all the excitement around here for girls basketball,” he said.
Added senior Vanessa Shafford: “I’ve played with these girls for like two years now so we know each other so well and it’s just like picking up where we left off so it’s super fun and everybody be friends again and I’m just so excited,” she said.
Fellow senior Aubrey Burgess says it will not be easy to repeat. “It’s definitely going to be a hard couple weeks to get everybody back to you know like basketball shape but we’re getting there and it’s been a lot of fun so far and we’re keeping our energy up and I think this year could be a really good year for us,” she said.
Another dominant player for the Miner is Haley Rose, who’s ready for the challenges ahead. “It’s been real exciting to get back on the court with all these ladies and I know that we’re all super excited for the upcoming season and just real excited for this week,” Rose said.
Meanwhile Junior Jaylee Hayes has a vision to get back to Indianapolis. “Yes that’s I think that’s one of our goals this year so I think if we do the same thing we did last year work hard every day push ourselves I think we’ll do just fine,” she said.
