TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Indiana State Sycamores beat Eastern Illinois 26-21 in the season opener on Saturday evening at Memorial Stadium. It was ISU’s first football game since November 2019. Michael Thomas had two interceptions including a 75 yard pick six in the 4th quarter that sealed the win. Peterson Kerlegrand had the opening score of the game and Michael Haupert added a 44 yard rush touchdown out of the wildcat formation.
The Sycamores defense was very good throughout the game, registering five sacks. Inoke Moala had two on the game. Offensively they rushed for 162 yards and did not trail at any point in the game. Up next the Sycamores are off the weekend of September 4th and return to action on September 11th at Northwestern. That game is slated for a 12 pm ET kickoff, 11 am in Evanston.
