TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – – Indiana State baseball dropped the home finale to Southern Illinois on Sunday 5-0. The Salukis rallied to win the four game series after dropping the opener on Friday afternoon.
The Sycamores managed 7 hits but ground into four double plays in the shutout. Noah Farmer (5-4) was the winning pitcher for SIU. Southern Illinois scored four runs in the 3rd inning and Nick Neville hit a two run homer for the Salukis. Ian Walters added a solo home run in the 8th inning to make it 5-0.
Javin Drake took the loss for ISU after allowing four runs in four innings of action. Zach Frey pitched four innings in relief and allowed just one run while retiring three on strikeouts. Austin Cross pitched the ninth and did not allow a run.
Up next ISU goes to Evansville on Thursday for a four game series. They are currently the 2nd seed in the Missouri Valley baseball standings with a conference record of 12-8 (25-15 overall). Dallas Baptist is the top seed with a mark of 16-4 (31-13 overall). The conference tournament begins on Wednesday May 26th in Carbondale, Illinois.
