Englewood, Colo. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Denver Broncos have traded for Indiana State linebacker Jonas Griffith. Jonas now lands on the Broncos 53-man roster and is expected to play a big role in special teams after shining for the 49ers in his first NFL preseason.
Head coach Vic Fangio says, “We are hopeful that Jonas can come in here, pick things up quickly in the special teams area and be a contributor in all four phases.”
General manager George Paton adds, “What really stood out from him watching the preseason tape was his special teams play. This kid is 6-3, he can run, he can fly. He’s really going to help our special teams and we need help on special teams.”
There are now three Indiana State Sycamores currently in the NFL. Jonas joins Robert Tonyan and Dominique Dafney of the Green Bay Packers.
The Broncos open the season September 12th at the New York Giants.
