Cubs hire David Ross as next manager

CHICAGO, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Chicago Cubs have hired David Ross to be their next manager according to ESPN. An official announcement will be held on Thursday. Ross replaces the departed Joe Maddon, who is now with the Los Angeles Angels. He is a former catcher who played under Maddon in 2015-16 and helped bring a World Series title to the franchise.

“I think it’s one of the best jobs in baseball,” Ross said recently. “I’ve got a lot of close ties with those guys. I think my heart is drawn to that dugout a little bit.” Other candidates included Cubs first-base coach Will Venable, bench coach Mark Loretta, former Phillies manager Gabe Kapler, former Yankees manager Joe Girardi and Astros bench coach Joe Espada.
