TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Cade Chambers and Gavin Screws have emerged as the leading contenders for the Indiana State quarterback position as spring practice continues for the Sycamores. Gavin is a sophomore from Jacksonville, Florida.
Cade is a redshirt freshman from Maryville, Tennessee and both have been taking reps with the first team offense. Coach Curt Mallory says it’s been a spirited competition between the two.
“You know they’re both competing, they’re both doing some really good things just looking for the consistency which one is going to bring that you know I see Cade Chambers really getting better each and every day and I see you know Gavin Screws doing the same you know they’re both really doing a great job and really like the direction they’re going. We never missed a day you know when we got back the day after Thanksgiving break we haven’t missed a day since you know coach McManus has done a great job in the offseason we’ve made great strides in development and it shows out here,” he said.
ISU opens the regular season on Thursday September 1st at home against North Alabama. Time for that game has not been determined.
