Brennan Ellis Sparks Falcons Hot Start

Sports

You could say Brennan Ellis was born to play quarterback. He’s been playing the sport since he was in first grade and has fully embraced his role on the North Vermillion Falcons.  “Just being a leader being a voice out there you know normally if things are going bad they’ll listen to you if you just tell them what to do just being out there trying to command the guys that’s what I like about it,” Ellis said.

Head coach Brian Crabtree is in his 7th season leading the Falcons and says Brennan’s athletic ability has allowed him to open up the playbook.  “When we graduated Jacob Hill last year I kind of went into a little bit different mode because their skill set was not quite similar Brennan is a little bit more of a thrower and so some of our offseason time was spent kind of looking at the passing game more,” he said.

Clearly that time has paid off as Ellis has put up some impressive numbers.  He’s thrown for 710 yards and 10 touchdowns and rushed for 632 yards and nine more scores.  It’s a big reason why the Falcons are 5-1 but Ellis says others share in the success of the team.  “Offensive line they’ve been doing great for the run game too I mean having a good run game helps me a lot in the passing game takes the pressure off makes it a lot easier for me,” he said.

Crabtree agrees the line has been solid.  “Our offensive line has played very well this year and then he’s used those opportunities to really make some big plays with both his arms and his legs,” he said.

The Falcons opened the season with a big win at home and Brennan says it’s his favorite memory of the season so far.  “Evansville Bosse just coming into that game we’d been thinking about that for geez ever since basketball season last year and we’ve been watching film forever on it and we couldn’t wait to get after it.  We always have fun we’re a bunch of jokesters Coach Crabtree will tell you we just love to have fun out there play the game that we love with the brothers that we love,” said Ellis.

He will have a chance to improve his already impressive stats when the Falcons go to Parke Heritage on Friday night.  A victory would improve their record to 6-1 on the year.
