TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Black division defeated the Gold division 15-14 in the annual Wabash Football All Star game on Saturday evening. The Black division got a 2nd quarter touchdown from South Vermillion’s Anthonio Nieves to take 7-0 lead. The Gold division responded later in the quarter when Northview’s Korbin Allen ran in a score from the wildcat position. Nieves says it was fun to play in the game.
“Oh man it’s awesome man playing against a lot of competition having a great time right now it’s awesome. Oh man it’s a lot faster you know especially a great challenge guys move fast they’re stronger but yeah it’s great,” Nieves said.
Added Northview’s Allen: “So we had like a little wildcat set with me at quarterback there and it’s a fake toss and I saw a cut back lane and I took it and I finished the run in the endzone. It’s been great just going against a tough opponent it’s like a sectional game almost it’s tough it’s fun and the friendships made are great,” he said. The game was played at Indiana State’s Memorial Stadium for the first time since 2019. Last year’s game was moved due to the pandemic.
