INDIANAPOLIS (WTWO/WAWV) – The Barr-Reeve Vikings clinched the school’s 2nd state title on Saturday, defeating Kouts 64-48 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Senior Curt Hopf led the way with 23 points and 19 rebounds. The 19 rebounds are a record in a state championship game. Senior Brycen Graber also set a new record with 13 assists, that is the most in class A title game history. He’s also the state’s all time assist leader. Hagen Knepp also had a double double with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Devin Graber added 13 points.
The victory is the 2nd for the Vikings, they also won the championship in the 2014-15 season. Head coach Josh Thompson is thankful for the opportunity he’s had with his players. “We’re so blessed the Lord has given us this season where we were at last year at this time can not give him enough glory for being here and being able to coach kids like this. I mean being a guy from Bloomfield and then having this come together like this you know you just don’t think you deserve things like this and I know these guys appreciate everything we had this year,” he said. This was Thomson’s 3rd year at the helm for Barr-Reeve.
