Back to normal for Marshall Football

MARSHALL, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Marshall Lions are about four and a half months removed from the first ever spring football season in Illinois. This week they continued preparations for a return to a more normal season in the fall. The Lions practiced indoors on Wednesday due to lightning in the area. However that won’t stop head coach Jared Boyll who enters his 4th year with a new set of leaders on both sides of the ball.

“We’ve got Nathan Swan he’s going to play running back for us. Logan Medsker he’ll be playing for us as well. Calvin Livvix at quarterback that’ll be a big one for us along with Seth Girton and Clayton Carter. Tristan Proffitt and we’ve got a few other guys that are going to be role players for us as well,” Boyll said.

Coach Boyll mentioned quarterback Calvin Livvix. While the senior enjoyed the spring he’s ready for a return to normal fall routines. “I mean I love football so I’m always ready to go again this time we just had to wait a few months but really as soon as school was out at the end of our football season we were right back into it. I’m ready for a full nine full season possibly playoffs can’t wait,” Livvix said.

Joining Calvin in the backfield is running back and linebacker Nathan Swan who has gained a new appreciation for what football means. “Don’t get me wrong the season last year was great and all but I’m super pumped for a whole nine games and I really want a chance to get to the playoffs that’s why it’s a great opportunity so I’m just I’m really ready,” Swan said.

For a Marshall Lion at heart Coach Boyll sums it up nicely. “I’m super excited graduated from here, went to school here, teach here and I want these guys to experience the playoffs. That’s the biggest thing we’re looking to, that’s the goal that we have but we know going into every single week we’ve got to perform in order to get there,” he said. The Lions open the season at home on Friday August 27th against Lawrenceville.
