TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Anthony Thompson has been named the starting quarterback for the Indiana State Sycamores, head coach Curt Mallory announced. Thompson is a transfer from Northern Illinois and had been competing with Kurtis Wilderman and Gunnar See for the starter’s role.
Thompson says he was nearly speechless when coach Mallory delivered the news. “Excitement I was kind of speechless you know I’ve been working for this for a really long time so when he told me it kind of really didn’t even feel real you know but it kind of made me realize you know you go into fall camp and I was competing for the job and you think like all the work you know has kind of paid off but really it’s just starting we’re getting ready to start the season and now all the real work starts to go ahead and win a championship,” Thompson said.
Added head coach Curt Mallory: “Well you know he made some good throws but you know he kind of settled down made a nice run that got him out of his shell a little bit but you saw Kurtis out there with some good experience so again we’ve got two really good quarterbacks it’s a good problem to have and we’re going to need them both,” Mallory said.
