LEXINGTON, KY. (WTWO/WAWV) – Former Terre Haute South star AJ Reed has been selected into the University of Kentucky Athletics Hall of Fame Class for 2020. Reed played there from 2012 to 2014 and is the most accomplished player in UK history. In 2014 he was the unanimous National Player of the Year and hit for a .336 batting average with 23 home runs and 73 RBI while going 12-2 as a pitcher with a 2.09 ERA.
He also played four seasons in the Major Leagues, making his final appearances with the Chicago White Sox in 2019. In 62 career games he hit four home runs and had 12 RBI’s. Reed was initially drafted by the Houston Astros with the 42nd pick in the 2014 MLB Draft before retiring in March of this year.
