Ryan Lochte and his new sprint coach, David Marsh, are quite the unlikely pair.
While coaching at Auburn University for 17 years, Marsh has faced Lochte, a former Florida Gator, many times.
Now, the Florida graduate chooses to train under his former college rival.
“What’s funny is he was the head coach for Auburn University when I was at the University of Florida. So when I was in college we were always going against each other and bumping heads. Now, I wasn’t a really big fan of him because I went to Flordia, but now he’s my coach so I mean it’s kind of funny,” Lochte reflected on the unusual situation. “He’s a great sprint coach, and the reason why I went to train under him is because I wanted to try different events. He’s a great coach and he can get me into those events that I want to do.”
Lochte plans to continue pushing himself with the help of Marsh in five events in Rio.
