Now that Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday now behind us, local students are celebrating “Giving Tuesday.”
Students at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College have their own take on Giving Tuesday.
It’s called “Hashtag Woods Giving Day” and it’s their chance for alums and donors to give back to the college.
“Woods Giving Day is a really fun initiative for us. It’s not just the typical mailer that you get at home asking you to give money. This is actually very interactive. Today we’re doing a scavenger hunt online. We’ve been releasing clues all day on social media,” says Susan Turner, Senior Director of Advancement and Alumni Relations.
This is their second year to participate. After last year’s success of blowing their goal of 175 gifts out of the water, this year they are trying to make it 250 gifts to the college.
One Freshman said she enjoyed helping out to bring more gifts to future students, since she also benefited from this program.
“I find it really unique that I’m getting to ask for donations and saying thank you for them, because I was personally effected by the Woods fund by receiving my scholarship here to Saint Mary’s. So I like being able to say ‘thank you’ back to all of the people that have given me a chance to come to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College,” says Mannah Mace, SMWC Freshman.
