Woman enters plea in infant son’s death

Terre Haute, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A local woman charged in the death of her infant changes her plea.

Tabetha Smith of Terre Haute has entered a plea of guilty to neglect of a dependent, resulting in serious bodily injury.

On Thursday, the judge took the plea under advisement and set another hearing on the matter for June 17.

Under the plea agreement, Smith faces 16 years, but the judge will hear arguments over how those years should be served.

Smith was accused last spring of removing a feeding tube from her 3-month-old son who was medically required to have one.

An autopsy showed the baby’s cause of death as severe dehydration.
